LANSING, MI — A Grand Rapids man nearly threw away the win of a lifetime while he was out to eat with his family recently. The lucky winner, who chose to remain anonymous, was at Tommy Brann’s Steakhouse, located at 4157 South Division Street in Wyoming when he got the urge to play the Michigan Lottery’s The Big Spin game
“I was eating dinner with my family and went to use the restroom,” said the player, who chose to remain anonymous. “The ticket machine caught my eye on the way back to the table, so I got a couple tickets.
“We were wrapping up, so I scratched them pretty fast and thought they were all losers and tossed them to the side. Something told me to look at them again and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a $1 million winner.”
The winner recently claimed his prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing. He elected to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000, rather than annuity payments for the full amount. With his winnings, he plans to buy a new home and help his father start a business.
A $1 million sold in Hartland last year went unclaimed. The ticket was purchased at the Speedway in Hartland, but the winner never came forward to claim the prize. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund. Make sure to check your tickets ASAP.
