Sister says The Hip Hop Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick granted “COVID-19 compassionate release” from prison

Kwame Kilpatrick’s sister announced on Twitter that “due to suffering severe health challenges,” she expects disgraced former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to receive a grant for COVID-19 compassionate release from prison this week.

“We are extremely grateful to God and we thank each and every one who has kept him and his family lifted in prayer,” she wrote.

State Representative Karen Whitsett, who announced in May that he was being released, seconded that he’ll be released today.

“He paid his dues and he shouldn’t be in there,” Whitsett said.

Kilpatrick is serving a 28 year federal prison sentence on corruption charges. The Federal Bureau of Prisons says Kilpatrick’s release date is January 18th, 2037.

That’s the word but the website still shows him inside of a facility and there has been no confirmation if he has been released or not.
