COP FIRED FOR POSTING PHOTO OF WATERMELON CARVED TO LOOK LIKE KAMALA HARRIS

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – A part-time sheriff’s deputy was recently fired after posting a photo of carved watermelon meant to depict Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, WXYZ Detroit reports.

The Facebook post included a photo of three carved pumpkins meant to represent President Donald Trump, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President Mike Pence. A second photo shows a carved watermelon meant to portray Harris. The post has since been removed, the report said.

Sheriff @MikeJBouchard says a part-time @oaklandsheriffdeputy has been terminated after this racist social media post.

It shows a carving of VP-elect @KamalaHarris from a watermelon and others from a pumpkin.

The deputy was fired the day the post came to the attention of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, according to a statement from Sheriff Mike Bouchard obtained by WXYZ Detroit.

Relating African Americans to watermelons “is linked to buffoonery and to less than,” said the Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, president of the NAACP Detroit Branch. “I believe that the intent was purposely structured to diminish and to dilute the significance of the first African American … as vice president of these United States.”

The former deputy told the TV station that he worked hard during his 30-year law enforcement career and is “not a racist and never will be.”
